Ever the prankster, the puzzler, the prowling pink-striped paradox, the Cheshire Catboy could not possibly resist joining the latest Wonderland calamity. With a sly grin and a tail that curled like a question mark, he slipped through the Doormouse’s transportational tummy-port—entirely unseen, unheard, and quite convinced he was the cleverest creature present.
(He was not wrong.)
Upon arriving in Niflheim, he found the place terribly dreary—
all gloom, no giggle, all darkness, no delightful mischief.
But it did present a rather irresistible opportunity:
To wreak havoc on any “naughty nonsense” he spotted.
For the Cheshire Catboy has a curious compulsion:
whenever he sees something he deems “improper” or “scandalously unsupervised,”
he appears in a puff of stripes and smirks
to cover it up,
interrupt it,
or frustrate anyone who was trying to enjoy it.
He calls it “improving the ambiance.”
Most others call it “intolerable.”
Thus far, Niflheim’s inhabitants have been absolutely beside themselves with irritation over his antics. But the Catboy, quite immune to criticism (and a few laws of physics), continues along merrily—
vanishing, reappearing, and inserting himself into moments where nobody asked for him, but everyone remembers him afterward.
Still, even his boundless mischief grows thin after enough snarling monsters and disgruntled demons. The fun of foiling “naughty behavior” is wearing out, and his grin has begun to curve with concern.
For somewhere in this dreadful realm wanders Neko Alice,
lost, confused, and utterly in need of a meddlesome catboy who knows how to make trouble and how to solve it.
If only he could find her!
But then again…
half the fun is in the searching.
