Egg Card Soldier

At the thunderous command of Red Queen Empusa, the Card Soldier marched forth with his many suited brothers—Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, and Spades all shuffling into perfect formation. Together they paraded straight through the Doormouse (who quivered most uncomfortably, for having an entire deck pass through one’s torso is an uncommonly ticklish business), emerging in single-file order on the other side.

But Niflheim is no gentle land.
Its shadows twist, its energies warp, and its sense of hospitality is appallingly low.
The moment they arrived, the dark magic seized the soldiers and removed their flat, stern faces, replacing them with wide, blinking eyes in the center of their card-like bodies.

The Card Soldiers were horrified, of course, but their terror of their queen far outstripped their facial predicament.
So they rallied together, stacking themselves neatly, fanning out bravely.

For the Red Queen Empusa had decreed—quite confidently and with little evidence—that Neko Alice had pilfered thousands upon thousands of her beloved snacks and surely stuffed them beneath her apron.

How, precisely, she might have stored such an impossible number of confections was not for the Card Soldiers to ponder.
Thinking, after all, was not their department.
Obeying most certainly was.

And so the Card Soldier continues his march through Niflheim’s dreadful realm—
fluttering, flipping, occasionally crumpling, yet ever faithful—
determined to seize Neko Alice and recover the snacks His Queen is so very certain she stole.

For though they are but cards, their loyalty remains as sharp as a freshly cut deck.
