Permanently bound to sacred clam shells from birth, the Calythra are known throughout Marithia as the Purifiers. For generations, they were entrusted with a singular mission: to cleanse the Dagonyth of Dagon's influence and preserve the cultural ideals upon which the kingdom was founded.

The effort has been, by nearly every measurable standard, a failure.

Despite years of rituals, sermons, and attempted rehabilitation, the Dagonyth continue to return from the depths unchanged—or, some would argue, more convinced of their purpose than ever. What was once a campaign of purification has gradually become one of persuasion.

Today, the Calythra devote themselves to spreading the teachings of Nythara, Lady of the Silver Tide, a revered goddess said to embody the virtues of Marithian civilization: refinement, harmony, beauty, and self-determination. Through faith and doctrine, they seek to counter the growing influence of the Deep Father and those who would return Marithia to its primordial roots.

Whether Nythara is truly a divine being remains a matter of quiet debate. Skeptics suggest she is little more than a theological invention—a symbol crafted by the kingdom to stand in opposition to Dagon and the uncomfortable truths surrounding Marithian origins. Such claims are rarely voiced publicly.

For Marithia's survival depends upon its stories as much as its armies.

And few stories are more important than the belief that the kingdom has transcended the masculine source from which it was born. The Calythra exist to ensure that belief endures, no matter how much evidence rises from the depths to challenge it.
